We're up for an award!
A group of 11 major North-east festivals, has announced today (Monday 18 September) that it has been recognised for its partnership working with a local accommodation provider, at the Aberdeen City & Shire Tourism Awards.
Partners, Aberdeen Festivals and Skene House HotelSuites have been shortlisted in the Working Together for Tourism category at the upcoming Aberdeen City & Shire Tourism Awards.
The shortlisting acknowledges Aberdeen Festivals and Skene House HotelSuites efforts in creating a successful and collaborative campaign to increase leisure and cultural tourism in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Steve Harris, Chair of Aberdeen Festivals commented, “Aberdeen Festivals and Skene House are well deserving of this award shortlisting; the work that the two partners have undertaken over the past year has made a significant difference to the profile of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire’s festivals, cultural and tourism offering.”
The year-long campaign has included discounted accommodation for festival visitors which both organisations have heavily promoted across a range of platforms throughout Scotland and London. Skene House has also been working closely with Aberdeen Festivals to increase the profile of the region in the media by hosting high-profile journalists and has offered discounted hotel stays to festival performers and even conference delegates.
Angela Greenhalgh, commercial manager of Skene House HotelSuites, added; “Being an independent Aberdeen business, Skene House has embraced its partnership with Aberdeen Festivals. Over the past year we have worked hard together to increase awareness of cultural and festival activity in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. As a result Skene House has hosted many cultural tourists as well as arts practitioners including national and international artists, conductors and choreographers.”
Since forming its partnership in early 2017, Skene House Hotel Suites has seen a notable increase in weekend leisure stays from visitors to Aberdeen Festivals’ member festivals.
Angela continued; “Skene House recognises that before the individual businesses in Aberdeen can make their mark on the wider tourism market, Aberdeen as a place must position itself as an exciting and vibrant city to visit. The leisure and cultural tourism industry has always been a fundamental part of the Skene House business model.”
