5 ways Aberdeen Jazz Festival always surprises
Aberdeen Jazz Festival never fails to impress and we love that there’s always something a little different on the programme each year. Here’s our top five quirky festival events coming your way in from 8-18 March 2018:
1. You can go on a safari
Yes, you read correctly, this is one for you foodies and jazz lovers. Journey across genres of jazz and through different kinds of food as you hop on board the jazz dinner safari. You’ll have one course in each restaurant – Carmelite, Molly’s Bistro and MUSA – and enjoy a different accompanying jazz session in each venue too.
2. There’s always time for an intoxicating high tea
Indulgent high tea with retro class… this is so up our street. Sit back and relax with your afternoon tea, cocktails or coffee, as you take in the harmonies of classic 40s, 50s and 60s live jazz with a unique vintage twist.
3. Ever fancied joining a Jazz crawl?
Think pub crawl…but swap out the drink (of course you can keep that in) for incredible live jazz instead. Soul and jazz is taking over three intimate music venues on Belmont Street on Saturday 10 March. Grab your ticket, soak up the atmosphere and roam freely between all venues as you experience the best of jazz for only £12!
4. You can always dust off those dancing shoes
Hot jazz, live music, swing dancing… got those dancing shoes on, jazz hands at ready as you lindy, jive and Charleston the night away. Award-winning Alison Affleck and her star band will sing some swinging vintage jazz classics.
5. You can even be part of a (friendly) riot
It’s going to be a hot-pot of peace lovin’, aggro-jazz and re-interpreted dance floor bangers. The nine-piece Riot Jazz Brass Band(they’ve even played Glastonbury) are bringing the spirit of New Orleans straight to Aberdeen – we hear they have been called ‘brass-wielding superheroes!
