My top May Festival picks
You’ve heard the news (if you haven’t then you’ve got to get following us on social media) that May Festival has launched its highly anticipated 2018 festival programme! Join 14,000 people across the weekend of 25-27 May, as they descend on the University of Aberdeen’s campus in historic Old Aberdeen for three days packed full of word, science, sport, history and music as we celebrate the Year of Young People in Aberdeen!
With over 80 events to pick from this wasn’t an easy task but here’s my five top picks from the 2018 May Festival:
A Life in Television
Sunday 27 May, 1.30-3pm
Be inspired by the stories and join a conversation with Graham Stuart, managing director of So Television – one of the UK’s most successful TV production companies. Hear about his career and his journey all the way to producing the Bafta and Emmy award-winning Graham Norton Show! (Did you know he is a University of Aberdeen alumnus?)
Denise Mina: The Long Drop
Saturday 26 May, 6-7pm
Do you enjoy a good crime book, series or documentary? Me too, especially real crime! Hear all about The Long Story – Denise’s first foray into true crime writing as she uncovers the story of Glasgow serial killer Peter Manuel.
Saturday 26 May, 10am-4pm
Of course I was going to include something to do with food… Get ready to tickle those taste buds as you indulge in some of our finest local food and drink – take home a piece of May Festival with you too when you stock up on your favourites!
Age of Oil
On until 8 July
This exhibition has arrived in Aberdeen fresh from the National Museums Scotland. Sue Jane Taylor has worked in some of the most challenging environments and this exhibition, Age of Oil, showcases visual art in response to the decommissioning structures in the North Sea! No need to book this one, just drop-in when you can.
Singing the Gospel
Friday 25 May, 12-1pm
Fancy discovering something a little different? I recommend getting yourself some tickets to find out more about singing gospel along our North-east coast from 1859-2009.
May Festival takes place from 25-27 May 2018. Head over to our what’s on calendar for event listings then just simply follow each link to grab your festival tickets before they go!
